Y’know, my original idea for writing about this was to make a chart of my favourite story threads, but as I thought about it I realised I couldn’t decide which ones I liked best. Colin Firth and Aurelia, Hugh Grant and Martin McCutcheon, Liam Neeson and the boy, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman, Bill Nighy shooting up the charts: who could decide? It’s a soft, easy, lovely watch all-round.
And another thing I’ve always loved about it is how nice it makes London look. I mean, I’m sure New York on a day-to-day basis doesn’t always feel super brilliant, but at least there are a thousand pieces of cinematic evidence to remind you otherwise. Love Actually is one of a rare few movies that, for me, can do that for London. It really makes it look beautiful.
Super cheesy and light, but irresistibly likeable.
