
Yeah, I thought this was pretty excellent. I did wonder whether the hype might hurt it, but where it surprised me was in how complete it all feels. It doesn’t feel like a novelty silent film at all. It has comedy, romance, drama and it’s all very emotionally potent as well as technically impressive.
It’s probably not my personal favourite of the year, but it’s probably the best combination of effective and affecting I’ve seen so far. With only Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and War Horse to see, I’d be surprised if I have anything ahead of this for Best Picture.
